Hello,I use SMC Fan Control on my MBP 15' (Mid 2009) to bring down the fan speed to 2000r/min since the default 2100 are a little too noisy for the university or even for my desk. I have the new version 2.2.2 installed and just after installation it worked fine but since the first time I set the mac to sleep mode it doesn't have an effect on the fan's speed at all.Anyone else having this issue?
Could it be due to the fact that its running in 32bit? I had the tool Fan Control running in version 1.2 at first, but it was the same with that.Would be glad to get some help on that. Hi Dude, I had a similar problem today (that is how I found your post).I'm running FanControl 2.2.2 on OS X 10.6.1Today I was working and the temp got up to 94 very quickly.
I naturally set the rpm to highest setting (6000+), closed everything down and waited. Everything worked fine and I returned to default. Then I put the computer to sleep for a little while and when it woke, the temp was in the high 30s, but the fan speed started to creep up slowly (eventually reaching 5900+). I could not change the rpm even though it was set at default. Then, suddenly, it started slowing down again and everything works fine again. I guess I'll just wait and see.Message was edited by: Daeld. I have found the only time for such an application SMC fan control is when the fans are not working properly.

I had an out of warranty MBP, 2+ years old, and no matter what I did, the fans would get up to like 4000 RPM after a while, even while doing nothing. I opened the unit, vacuumed, dusted it, but still nothing worked. I installed the SMC fan control, it slowed down the fans, but my machine was still running hot. So SMC may just mask a greater problem, and you could kill your computer in the meantime. These fan apps alter the way the fans work, and if you computer died, or needs repair, Apple could easily see you are using such applications and void your warranty.Bryan.
I'll agree with Evan127 as well. If the fans at 2100rpm are annoying then I can't imagine at 2000rpm it's a 'world of difference.' I think you need to get the unit looked at to make sure the fans are making noise due to the physical hardware.Regarding the wake from sleep issue and fan speed, I don't think it's a Snow Leopard issue.
I use to fool around with SMC Fan Control in Leopard (10.5.4-10.5.8) and that issue would regularly occur there as well.Have you reached out to the developer of the program? Excellent job!!!Good try.I love this app.Bypassed me from many troubles.I had many BSODs (randomly) and I had no idea what was going on.My configuration is a system of an Apple iMac 'Core i5' 2.66 27-Inch (Late 2009), with the following identifiers: Late 2009 - MB953LL/A - iMac11,1. This is a known toaster sytem.I mostly operating this system under Bootcamp partition, wearing Windows 7, Ultimate - 64bit (many applications under Windows platform).I had NO FANS at all.Take a look at the temperatures I had before running MacFan:(Fan #0 (ODD) was running at 1010 rpm).
